Oluwo Urges Local Manufacturers to Curb Arbitrary Price Hikes

In a candid address at the commissioning of an ultra-modern hall and the celebration of the 60th anniversary of Iwo Grammar School in Osun State, the Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, delivered a resounding call to local manufacturers to refrain from arbitrarily increasing the prices of essential commodities, citing potential harm to the economy.

Expressing concern over the recent surge in the price of cement, Oba Akanbi highlighted that the materials used in its production are domestically sourced, unaffected by foreign exchange rates.

Oluwo said: “Nigeria is going through a rebirth and like labour pains, hardships are temporary. Nigeria will emerge stronger, but in the interim, we must not exacerbate the challenges faced by our people.”

Oba Akanbi urged local manufacturers to recognize the government’s efforts to support indigenous production by restricting imports, emphasizing the need to reciprocate this support by keeping prices reasonable.

In a clarion call to action, Oba Akanbi implored local manufacturers to collaborate with the present administration to foster economic growth, rather than undermining its efforts.

Oluwo said: “Local manufacturers must desist from trying to sabotage this government. We can see that the current government is trying, and we know that we have capable hands in his cabinet.”

The event also saw contributions from government officials, with Commissioner for Education, Adedipo Eluwole, affirming the government’s commitment to partnering with alumni bodies to enhance facilities in public schools. Represented by the Education Permanent Secretary, Jimoh Adekilekun, Eluwole underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in advancing education and infrastructure across the state.
