The State of Osun House of Assembly, as the legislative arm of government at the State level, is a creation of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

In Osun State, the House of Assembly became operationalized shortly after the creation of Osun State from the old Oyo State in 1991. Members of the first Assembly in Osun State were inaugurated in January 1992.

The Osun State House of Assembly is the legislative arm of the government of the Osun State of Nigeria. It is a unicameral legislature with 26 members elected from the 30 local government areas of the state known as state constituencies.

In some places, two local government areas are merged to form a single state constituency. Therefore, this makes the number of legislators in the Osun State House of Assembly 26 instead of 30.

The fundamental functions of the Assembly are to enact new laws, amend or repeal existing laws and oversight the executive.

Members of the assembly are elected for a term of four years concurrent with federal legislators (Senate and House of Representatives). The state assembly also convenes three times a week (Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays) in the assembly complex within the state capital, Osogbo.

The current speaker of the 7th Osun State House of Assembly is Timothy Owoeye. Timothy Owoeye from APC representing the Ilesha East constituency was elected Speaker, while Femi Popoola from APC representing Boripe/Boluwaduro constituency was elected Deputy Speaker.

The 2019 Osun State House of Assembly election was held on March 9, 2019, to elect members of the Osun State House of Assembly in Nigeria.

The 2023 Osun State House of Assembly election was held on March 18, 2023, to elect members of the 8th Osun State House of Assembly in Nigeria.

Member House of Assembly Iwo (2003 – 2007)

Sunday Oroniyi contested under the PDP platform and emerged as the Iwo State Constituency representative at the third Osun State House of Assembly.

Hon. Salinsile Rasaq Ayobami
Member House of Assembly Iwo (2007 – 2011)

Salinsile Rasaq contested the Osun State House of Assembly in the 2007 general election under the platform of AD and emerged as the winner fourth Osun State House of Assembly.

Salinsile was a member of the state Assembly between 2007 and 2011 where he chaired the House Committee on Health.

Hon. Adeyemo Ezekiel Adedibu

Adeyemo Ezekiel contested the Osun State House of Assembly in the 2011 general election under the platform of APC and emerged as the winner 5th Osun State House of Assembly.

Ibrahim Gbadebo popularly known as ‘O’Buremo‘ contested the Osun State House of Assembly in the 2015 general election under the platform of APC and emerged as the winner 6th Osun State House of Assembly.
