Zonal Intervention Projects popularly known as ‘Constituency Projects’ are developmental projects sited in the geopolitical constituencies of lawmakers and implemented by various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of government.

The Zonal Intervention Projects are capped at N100 billion every year by Nigerian Lawmakers (109 Senators and 360 members of the House of Representatives in the 6 Geo-Political zones. Our House of Representatives gets N60 billion while the Senate takes N40 billion to start and complete projects in their constituencies.

The House of Representatives is the lower chamber of Nigeria’s bicameral National Assembly. The House of Representatives has 360 members. Members serve four-year terms.

Iwo Federal Constituency comprises of Ayedire, Iwo and Ola-Oluwa local governments. As a federal constituency, Iwo land (AYIWOLA) is represented at the National Assembly. Iwo Federal Constituency has had different individuals represented them at the green chamber in Abuja. Among them are;

– Hon. Jolaoye George (6th National Assembly 2007 – 2011)

List of Constituency Projects Executed in Iwo Federal Constituency from 2017 - 2020

Hon. Jolaoye George represented Ayedire/Iwo/Ola-Oluwa at the 6th National Assembly under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The 6th National Assembly was inaugurated on June 5, 2007. The tenure of Hon. Jolaye at the  6th Assembly was between 2007–2011.

– Hon. Gafaru Akintayo Amere (7th National Assembly 2011 – 2015)

In the April 2007 General elections, Hon. Gafar Akintayo Amere contested for a seat in the Federal House of Representatives under the platform of the Action Congress (AC). He lost to Hon. George Jolaoye of the People Democratic Party (PDP) who was declared the winner.

In the April 2011 General elections, he re-contested under the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) against Alhaji Liad Tella of People Democratic Party (PDP) and won. Hon. Amere as popularly called represented Iwo Federal Constituency at the 7th National Assembly.

The 7th National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria was inaugurated on June 6, 2011 and the assembly ran its course till June 6, 2015.

Akintayo Gafar Amere

– Hon. Gafaru Akintayo Amere (8th National Assembly 2015 – 2019)

Hon. Gafar Akintayo Amere contested for the second term in the 2015 General elections. Then, he contested under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) against his major opponent, Mr. Tajudeen Ologburo of People Democratic Party (PDP) and Hon Amere won to represent Ayedire/Iwo/Ola-Oluwa Federal Constituency at 8th National Assembly.

– Hon. Yinusa Akintola Amobi (9th National Assembly 2019 – 2023)

Hon Amobi Moves a Motion to Revitalise and Upgrade The Aquaculture Technology Centre, Oluponna

Hon. Amobi Yinusa Akintola contested under the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform won the 23rd February 2019 to represent Ayedire/Iwo/Olaoluwa Federal Constituency at the Green Chamber of the National Assembly.

The 9th National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria was inaugurated will run its course from 2019 – 2023.

List of Constituency projects Nominated for Iwo Federal Constituency from 2018 – 2020.

As explained above, every year the House of Representatives with 360 members from the 6 Geo-Political zones nominated projects to be executed by MDAs in their Federal Constituency. The House of Representatives gets N60 billion while the Senate takes N40 billion to start and complete projects in their constituencies (N100 billion for both Chambers).

This post will enumerate projects nominated and claimed executed according to the data available to us from 2017-2020.

A total amount of N124 million constituency projects were nominated in 2020, 60 million in 2019, N114,851,852 in 2018 and N76,851,852 in 2017. That is, a total of N375,704,703 projects were started and executed by House of representative members that represented Iwo Federal Constituency between 2017-2020.

Failed Promises: FILSU to Embark on a Peaceful Protest Against Bad Governance in Iwo

2020

1- Supply of Bajaj motorcycles for youths in Ayedire/Iwo/Ola-Oluwa federal constituency. Amount: N20,000,000

2- Supply of transformers with electrical poles and installations to some selected communities in Ayedire/Iwo/Ola-oluwa federal constituency. Amount: N14,000,000

3- Entrepreneurial training and empowerment for youths and women in Ayedire/lwo/ola-Oluwa federal constituency. Amount: N30,000,000

4- Medical outreach at Ayedire/Iwo/Ola-oluwa Federal Constituency, Osun state. Amount: N10,000,000.

5- Supply of medical bed, mattress, bedsheets, and first aid boxes with drugs and consumables to sickbay of all primary and secondary schools in Ayedire/Iwo/Ola-oluwa federal constituency. Amount: N20,000,000

6- Supply of customized 40 leaves, 60 leaves and 80 leaves exercise books with school bags in Ayedire, Ola-oluwa and Iwo Federal Constituency. Amount: N30,000,000

2019

1- Provision of skill acquisition training for unemployed youths in Iwo Local Government Area, Osun state.  Amount: N10,000,000

2- Entrepreneurship training for youth and women in Iwo – Osun state.  Amount: N35,000,000

3- Supply of Bajaj motorcycles for youth in Ola-Oluwa local government, Osun state. Amount: N15,000,000

2018

1- Supply of customized notebooks to Ayedire/Iwo/Ola-Oluwa Federal Constituency, Osun state. Amount: N10,000,000

2- Training and empowerment of youth in Ayedire/Iwo/Ola-Oluwa Federal Constituency, Osun state. Amount: N45,000,000

3- Skill acquisition and training programme on paint production and marketing for unemployed youth in Ayedire/Iwo/Ola-oluwa Federal constituency, Osun state. New refugees. Amount: N14,851,852

4- Empowerment of unemployed youths and women of Ayedire/ Iwo/Ola-oluwa Federal constituency, Osun state. Amount: N45,000,000

2017

1- Training and empowerment of unemployed youths in Ayedire, Iwo and Ola-oluwa Federal constituency, Osun state. Amount: N47,000,000

2- Training of unemployed youths in Iwo local government in Osun state. Amount: N29,851,852

What have been the impacts of these projects? Breakdown of the analysis shows training, empowerment, skills and acquisitions is 62% out 100%. Are these projects being executed every year empowered people of Iwo Federal Constituency?
