The Osun State governor, Ademola Adeleke, yesterday appointed Iwo-born media guru and veteran journalist, Mallam Olawale Rasheed as the Spokesperson to the Governor.
Mallam Olawale Rasheed was instrumental to the success of Governor Ademola, therefore, he was rewarded with the position of Spokesperson to the Governor.
This appointment was announced immediately after the swearing-in and inauguration ceremony in Osogbo yesterday; November 27, 2022.
Mallam Olawale Rasheed was the media image of governor Ademola Adeleke before the election and was appointed as the Chairman of, the Media Sub-Committee, for Ademola Adeleke Transition Committee after winning the gubernatorial election.
The governor made three new appointments with an immediate effect. The governor appointed Alhaji Kassim Akinleye as the chief of staff to the Governor, Mr Teslim Igbalaye as Secretary to the State Government, SSG, and Mallam Olawale Rasheed as the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor.
This statement from the governor reads: “Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has approved the appointment of Alhaji Kassim Akinleye as the chief of staff to the Governor;
“Alhaji Teslim Igbalaye as the Secretary to the State Government and Mallam Rasheed Olawale as the Spokesperson to the Governor.
“The appointment takes immediate effect.”
Olawale Rasheed is a media guru and a veteran journalist. He was a former governorship aspirant under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 2018.
Mallam Olawale Rasheed obtained a Bachelor of Arts in the English Language from the University of Ilorin, Kwara State and his Master’s degree from the University of Abuja in Public Administration.
Olawale Rasheed worked with a different media house in Nigeria before he finally settled at Tribune Newspapers where he rose to the position of Group Political Editor. He is the CEO of Sahel Media Group and the Publisher of Sahel Standard Newspaper. He’s a resourceful and hardworking journalist who has transversed the entire country and beyond in political reportage.
Olawale Rasheed’s foray into politics started at a tender age, being a son of an astute politician, the Late Pa Bilawu Akanji Olode, a strong member of Action Group. His father was one of the founding members of Action Group and Iwo and the district. He took after his father and took part in party struggles right from the defunct PSP, SDP, UCNP, AD and finally PDP.
He has paid his due in the political arena after working for a quite number of big shots in the political space including Senator Olu Alabi where he served as his Media Director when he was the Board Chairman of the Federal Capital Development Authority.
In 2007, he served as Special Assistant to Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sport, Senator Akinlabi Olasunkanmi, the position he used to facilitate employment for Osun Youth.
Olawale Rasheed is the founder of Olawale Rasheed Foundation, a humanitarian organization that has helped in alleviating poverty in Osun and Nigeria at large.
