In a disturbing turn of events at the recent Egungun festival in Iwo, Osun State, reports have emerged of violence and vandalism allegedly perpetrated by a masquerade going by the name SAMBELEKE.
According to the Ta’awunu Human Rights Initiative (THURIST), this masquerade attacked Alhaji Musa Ameer Jaesh Ogo Oluwa, a prominent Islamic scholar and preacher, at Alaye Junction, Kajola Area, on Saturday. The unprovoked assault left his Toyota Camry damaged and several passersby injured.

THURIST has also highlighted other criminal acts committed against individuals who did not submit to traditional practices during the festival. The organization has called on the Iwo Divisional Police Headquarters and the Area Commander to take swift action against these crimes, which have become a recurring issue during the festival.
THURIST reminds the public that no one has the right to infringe on the rights of others and urges law enforcement to intervene to prevent a potential breakdown of law and order. The group is demanding a thorough investigation into the incident and the prosecution of those responsible.
