Alhaji (Hon) Akintayo Gafar Amere was born to the illustrious Amere family of Iwo Local Government Area of Osun State on the 15th of January 1966. The father is Pa Salami Amere Akintayo of Amere dynasty, a renowned and astute politician in the then Western State. Pa Salami Amere as the Head of “Agbekoya” (with Late Barrister Eniola Atanda) fought vehemently for the emancipation of the downtrodden farmers against the then oppressive military regime.
Young Gafar had his early education and secondary education in the Benin Republic and his tertiary education was at Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti and Dorben Polytechnic, Abuja, where he obtained an Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Accountancy with Upper credit and Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accountancy with Distinction credit respectively and he received the Best student award. He also holds a Diploma in Computer Studies.

At an early age, Gafar Amere started championing the cause of the “oppressed” by stepping in the shoes of his late father.
Hon. Gafar Amere is a Chartered Accountant, a Consultant, a Teacher, and a well-bred politician.
Alh. Gafar trained as an accountant, a tax administrator, and a consultant with Ijewere & Co (Chartered Accountants) in Lewis Street in Lagos. He left an enviable record in the Accounting Firm when he revived the then Ile-Oluji Cocoa Industries Limited (the Largest Cocoa factory in Africa) in receivership in 1996.
The successful administration of the industry earned him “the youngest General Manager” of the company for several years before travelling abroad for a further sojourn in the private cocoa business.

Prior to joining the Accounting Firm, Gafar was a senior accountant with Hold-trade Drilling Co. in Victoria Island in Lagos for many years. The company was among the group of companies of the Late Aliyu Dasuki. He was the Accountant Supervisor in Nigeria Engineering Construction Limited, Kaduna. Also, he was the Company Accountant of IAL Nigeria Limited in Creek Road, Agege, Lagos. He had a short stint as a teacher at Iwo Grammar School, Iwo LG.
Hon. Gafar Akintayo Amere became the Chief Executive Officer of AIE International Limited in Lagos until the year 2005 when he went home to serve his people in politics. Because of his diverse accomplishment in his professional endeavour coupled with a solid political background, Gafar was made a member of the then ACN Convention Committee of Oyo State and later chairman ACN Electoral Committee of Kwara State. He was unparalleled and received commendation by the then ACN Leadership for a job well done.
In the April 2007 General elections, he contested for a seat in the Federal House of Representatives under the platform of the Action Congress (AC), he had Hon. George Jolaoye of the People Democratic Party (PDP) was the challenger but he was unsuccessful due to the political gimmicks surrounding the 2007 General elections in Osun state. In the April 2011 General elections, he re-contested under the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) against Alhaji Liad Tella of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and won.

In the March 2015 General elections, he again re-contested for the Federal House of Representatives under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), he had Mr. Tajudeen Ologburo of the People Democratic Party (PDP) as the challenger and won to represent Ayedire/Iwo/Ola-Oluwa Federal Constituency.
He has as his legislative interest Public accounting and the target to ensure compliance with Public accounting.
Honourable Gafar Akintayo Amere is active and vocal in the discharge of his duties in the house through his meaningful contribution to the oversight function as the National Chairman Committee on Cybercrime and a member of, the Committee on Petroleum Subsidy Probe, Public Accounts, Industries, Commerce, Legislative Compliance, Appropriation, Rural Development, FRSC, Judiciary, Special Duties, Youth Development and among others.

Honourable Gafar Akintayo Amere is a Fellow/Member of several professional bodies and became a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Corporate Administrators in 2016. A Life Patron of Nigeria Automobile Technicians Association (NATA). Baba Adeen Of Albayan International Family. A recipient of the excellence and outstanding award by NATA, NUJ, NURTW, RTEAN, Student Unions, Iyalojas and Babalojas, Religious groups and Corporate bodies and Individuals. Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) also decorated him as an achiever.
Honourable Akintayo Gafar Amere is a detribalised man with a large heart. Many students of Osun state origin are beneficiaries of his bursary programme which he has sustained over the years. He has supported various individuals and groups. Also, he has facilitated Employment Opportunities for a good number of Iwo Federal Constituency Residents and Indigenes.
He is easily accessible and has listening ears. Visibly, he is the outstanding politician from Osun West Senatorial District today with an intimidating performance record.
