Meet Professor Sikiru Adetona Olurode: A Distinguished Iwo-born Scholar
Profile Professor Sikiru Adetona Olurode

Professor Sikiru Adetona Olurode started his education career at District Council School, Laito, Iwo (1975-1981) and obtained Primary School Leaving Certificate in 1981. He proceeded to Baptist High School, Adeeke, Iwo (1981-1986) for his secondary education and obtained his West African School / GCE O’ Level Certificate in 1986.

Professor Sikiru Adetona later gained admission into the prestigious University of Ibadan (1987-1994), where he obtained Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree in 1994. He underwent the mandatory one-year NYSC programme in Jos, Plateau State (1994-1995).

On completion of the Youth service, he enrolled for his postgraduate studies at the University of Ibadan (1995-2004) and obtained Master of Veterinary Science (MVSc) in Theriogenology with PhD grade in the year 2004. Whilst undergoing the postgraduate training, he ventured into the Professional private service and served in various capacities for over a decade (1995-2006).

Professor Olurode later joined the services of the then University of Agriculture, Abeokuta in December 2006 at the College of Veterinary Medicine as Lecturer Grade II and taught and still teaches courses in Theriogenology (Veterinary Gynaecology, Veterinary Obstetrics, Andrology and Artificial Insemination, Reproductive Biotechnologies, Herd Health Fertility, Reproductive Endocrinology) at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels till now.

Professor Olurode enrolled for his PhD (Theriogenology) at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta in 2009 and completed it in November 2016. He was promoted to Lecturer Grade I on October 1, 2011 and later the Senior Lecturer position on October 1, 2017.

In 2010, he attended the 14th regular course of the University Biotechnology Center and obtained a Certificate in Molecular Biology. He served as Clinician / Veterinary Registrar (with specialty in Large Animal Theriogenology) to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, College of Veterinary Medicine, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta between 2006 and 2017.

Meet Professor Sikiru Adetona Olurode: A Distinguished Iwo-born Scholar

In 2018, Professor Olurode was appointed a Veterinary Consultant (Large Animal Theriogenology) by the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, College of Veterinary Medicine, FUNAAB and has been serving in that capacity. In October 2020, Professor Olurode was promoted to the rank of a Reader / Associate Professor of Theriogenology by the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta.

Professor Olurode has continued to supervise both undergraduate (DVM) and postgraduate (Masters and PhDs) students in the University. As part of his contribution to his community, Professor Olurode was appointed a member of the Governing Board of The Wings Schools, Iwo, Osun State in 2021.

On July 18, 2024, at the meeting of APCAS and the University Governing Council, his promotion to the rank of a Professor of Theriogenology was announced, an achievement that reflects the hard work, dedication and academic contributions as demonstrated by excellence in his area of specialization.

Professor Olurode is a recipient of the following Prizes and awards in his Honours and Recognition: Best Graduating Student, Baptist High School, Iwo (1986), Best Graduating Student, Iwo Local Government Council (1986), Award of Excellence (Al-Mustakshif), MSSN-FUNAAB (2017), Distinguished Role Model Award, The Wings Schools, Iwo (2018), Academician of the Year (2020) and TETFund Institution Based Research Grant (FUNAAB-IBR-01-2022) in 2022.

Professor Olurode has contributed academic articles to both referred local and international Journals and Conference Proceedings, co-authored a Book, he is a Public Commentator and has contributed articles to some national tabloids on burning and professional issues.

He is a Presenter and Producer of programmes at TV and Radio Stations. He served as Associate Editor, The Muslim Vet., Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Ibadan (1992-1993) and Managing Editor, MSSN Press Organization, University of Ibadan (1992-1994). Also, he is currently an Academic Editor with a foreign peer-reviewed mega journal, PLOS ONE, published by the Public Library of Science, based in San Francisco, California, and Cambridge, United Kingdom.

Meet Professor Sikiru Adetona Olurode: A Distinguished Iwo-born Scholar

Professor Olurode has served in various academic, administrative positions and committees within the University and contributed immensely to the larger society. He was the Coordinator of Veterinary Services for two terms at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, COLVET-FUNAAB, between November 2019 and November 2023.

Professor Olurode focuses his research on large animal reproduction, livestock production, assisted reproductive technologies including oestrous synchronization, artificial insemination e. t. c., as well as herd health and associated fertility problems.

Professor Olurode is a member of some Professional bodies like the Society for Animal Reproduction and Improvement (SARI), the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association, and the Nigerian Society of Theriogenology etc. He is the pioneer General Secretary of SARI. His hobbies include Meditation, Counselling, Travelling and Reading.

Professor Olurode is happily Married and blessed with Children.
