In a moment of pride for Iwoland and the entire African academic community, Professor Al-Khidr Abdulbaaqi Mohammad, an eminent Islamic scholar, has been awarded the Award of Merit and Scientific Excellence at the Hamsa Literature and Arts Festival in Cairo, Egypt.
The award ceremony took place on Friday, September 6, 2024, at the historic Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Fustat, Cairo, under the sponsorship of the Egyptian Ministry of Culture.

Professor Al-Khidr’s honour comes as recognition of his extensive and many contributions to the promotion of the Arabic language, culture, and intellectual scholarship.
His Eminence, Professor Al-Khidr Abdulbaqi Mohammad, who is also the President of the African Union of Arab Academics and Scholars and the Director of the Nigerian Center for Arab Research Nigeria, having humbly nominated some scholars for this award in the past years, is now the beneficiary of the award this year.

Over the years, his scholarly work and leadership have had a transformative impact on Arabic studies across Africa.
The same honour and award was previously received by the late eminent scholar, Sheikh Adam Abdullah Al-Alory, and today it returns to the house of Sheikh Abdul Baqi Muhammad (Baba Oluko Agba).
The event featured over twenty distinguished figures from the literary, intellectual, and artistic world, representing countries such as Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait, and many others.

A delegation from the Nigerian embassy in Cairo and various student unions, including the General African Students’ Union and the Nigeria Students’ Union, attended the ceremony.
