PROTOCOLS

It’s with great delight I welcome everyone, particularly illustrious sons and daughters of Iwo to this year’s edition of Iwo Day Celebration. It’s another opportunity to celebrate our uniqueness as a people of the great city of parrot and as well take stock of how far we’ve come as far as the development of Iwo and her people is concerned.

This year’s edition, as usual, comes with its uniqueness. It’s being organised under a new leadership being put together by the newly inaugurated Members of the Iwo Board of Trustees under the president, our revered Prof Lai Olurode.

In spite of the short time the Committee was conducted, I’m surprised they were able to put on another worthwhile and colourful celebration. It is my belief that next year Iwo Day will be bigger and better as there will be enough time for more organisation and preparation.

Iwo Board of Trustees

The new Iwo Board of Trustees under the leadership of Prof Lai Olurode have shown commitment and dedication. I so much believe in the Board and I’m confident they are going to inspire us to greatness as a people.

Iwo Day Celebration is an avenue to encourage ourselves, it’s another opportunity to challenge ourselves, and as well come together to remind ourselves of the beautiful foundation laid by our forefathers. It is another time to reinvigorate and renew our strength and energy, all for Iwo. Our fathers have done their best. We now have to write our own history.

We have to build a new Iwo of our dream. Also, we must build Iwo that the coming generations will be proud of. Iwo that will be of envy in the community of cities. We have a solid foundation to build on. We must not relent in contributing positively to this Iwo agenda.

I also want to use this medium to preach peace, unity and cooperation among ourselves. It is only through unity of purpose we can achieve more. We must be ready to collaborate with one another in this onerous journey.

I call on Iwo sons and daughters in the diaspora to come back home and give back to Iwo. We have so many Iwo indigenes doing exceedingly well outside, this is the right time to remember their source.

We’ve been able to give Iwo a new image and even people who are not of Iwo origin want to associate with Iwo. I’m calling on successful Iwo abroad to come and invest in Iwo. I’m always ready to welcome them back home.
