Iwo people

Stieg Larsson probably witnessed what’s similar to the absurd situation we have at hand when he said: “We need to have a talk on the subject of what’s yours and what’s mine.”

It is imperative and long overdue to send out a stern warning to the few people in Iwo who have taken our naturally hospitable attitude for granted. It is incontrovertible that Ayedire South, Ward 4, Oke-Osun is an electoral ward, recognised under the law as belonging to the geographical area of Oluponna in Ayedire LG.

Historically, the entire Oke-Osun in Oluponna is known for Agricultural exploit, which today remains one of the agricultural hub of Oluponna and by extension, Ayedire. The indigenes of Oke-Osun are also by nature, friendly and very hospitable people, that’s why since time immemorial, the people of Iwo, who for farming purpose, in search of greener pastures or for any reason at all have relocated; either temporarily or permanently to Oke-Osun, have been welcomed with open arms.

Some Iwo indigenes are now even permanent residents of Oke-Osun and are enjoying equal rights and privileges available to their hosts, such is the receptive nature of the indigenous people of Oluponna, after all when the chips are down, we are one big family.

However, we have noticed over years with stern consternation, how our friendliness and hospitableness is being taken for stupidity and gullibility. Many people from Iwo are now taking us for fools by laying claim and vying for political positions SOLELY meant for the people of Ayedire/Oluponna/Oke-Osun (as the case may be), the latest of that is the launched Political ambition of one Mr. Isiaka Sulaimon Alabetiaja from Oweeru compound in Iwo. It is an unwritten rule that an Ogun state indigene cannot come to Osun and vie for our state Governorship position, neither can an Ayedire born individual go to Ife to jostle for political post exclusive for the people of Ife.

Our research into this ugly trend has revealed to us that such individuals laying claims to Oluponna, particularly Oke-Osun for political positions are doing so because they feel it is easier to find their way here as our political environment is less competitive and less intriguing compared to Iwo. Those who have also been schemed out of political equation in Iwo are also resulting to Oke-Osun as Plan B and for political respite to achieve their inordinate crave for power.

Iwo people

We have eminent men and women in Oluponna, who are well educated, exposed, experienced and capable of assuming political positions, no matter how highly. We even have them in abundance and they can be exported to any community where and if needed. We are categorically and unequivocally sounding a note of warning to Mr. Isiaka Sulaimon Alabetiaja and indeed any other person from Iwo who may be thinking or planning to follow in the same dastard step to desist.

An end has come to such flagrant disrespect to the people of Oluponna, we will no longer watch akimbo seeing our exclusive right being trampled upon.

No is a complete sentence. Enough is Enough!
