Osun Cabinet Portfolio Mixed Reaction in Iwoland: What Next? | By Saminu Abass Ola
Few hours after the inauguration of the Osun Cabinet where portfolio was assigned to each nominee, a mixed reaction has trailed it in Iwoland. Iwoland with three nominees; who are Engr Mumini Adekunle Olabamiji, Dr Rafiu Isamotu and Dr Ahmidu Tadese. The three names listed are not new to Osun politics.
Dr Raifu Isamotu has served under the administration of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola in the health sector. Also, Dr Tadese is a grassroots politician and has served as a Chief Whip when he represented Iwo state Constituency at Osun State House of Assembly in 1991. Dr. Amidu Tadese left APC for PDP to nurture his gubernatorial ambition during the last election that brought in Gboyega Oyetola to Bola Ige House in Osogbo.
In addition, Engr Mumini Rafiu Olabamiji is a product of politics, born by an influential politician, Alh Olabamiji, a former Chairman of the defunct AD in Iwo Local Government.
Engr Mumini is a silent achiever who has touched hundreds of lives through his humanitarian activities. He is an experienced engineer. He has handled a good number of projects for national and international agencies in Abuja and throughout the country. Also, Engineer Mumini contested under the APC platform in last Osun gubernatorial election.

With these vast experiences, the roles they all played and their contributions, the expectations of Iwoland people were high. Though much hope was not placed on Dr Rafiu Isamotu because he could retain the health sector.
Finally, the portfolios were assigned; Dr Amidu Tadese got the Commissioner for Water Resources and Energy. Engineer Mumini Olabamiji got Special Adviser on Rural development and community development. Dr Rafiu Isamotu got Commissioner for health.
None of the three names above was missed on the list. Now, we should ask ourselves why the mixed reaction?
The mixed reaction that trailed the portfolios assigned to the Cabinet was basically;
– Engineer Mumini deserved more than the portfolio assigned to him?
– Dr Amidu Tadese who left the ruling party to contest against the current Governor got a better portfolio than a member of APC.

Other reactions move round these two points above. What could be the reasons the pattern of portfolios could be assigned in that manner? Only the Governor and other factors who determined it would have answers to the question.
Some people were of the opinion maybe Engineer Mumini is seen as a threat. As a contestant in the last Guber election and which could also be a resurrected Jesus Christ after death in the future. Some are even raising voices for Osun Gubernatorial Election 2022. The question is, could these thoughts change the decision that has been made? The answer is No.
One thing we should all appreciate is that all the 3 names are capable hands. They can deliver at their various assigned task. Lamentations and banters shouldn’t be the reactions. They need our support, prayers, pieces of advice, suggestions and call to attention to succeed. Half bread is better than none.
We should forget the background or platform they are all coming from. The most important thing is how will they succeed and make Iwoland proud.

If we are still playing the disunity and hatred game based on religion and political party then we are not yet ready in Iwoland. Development and growth don’t visit a community where love, peace and unity are dead.
I believe we should have learned from the mistake of the past. There are many collective fights in the future that will require collective efforts to win. I believe we can all engage in politics without hatred. Your brother can be in party B and you in party A without turning your back to him. Your brother in another political party might not be doing well or gets what he deserves yet he doesn’t give you the chance to shows your banter skills. It shouldn’t be an avenue to set the social media on fire to demean him.
Elders and leaders in the past have played this crude political games for years with little or no positive impact in the land. It is essential for the youths to say a ‘NO’ to the same path.
If it takes crawling to build Iwoland, let’s crawl. If it also takes walking or running to have a Greater Iwo Empire, it is a must to do it. Together we can make Iwoland a Paris in Africa.
God bless Iwoland.
