A community development advocate, Mr. Kabiru Adeniyi Adisa, FCA, has congratulated Nigerians on the anniversary of the country’s independence, saying nothing could ever assuage for the feeling of being ‘totally free’.
Nigeria, a former British colony, got her independence from British government on October 1st 1960 and that day has since been set aside for celebration.
In a statement on Monday night to commemorate this year anniversary, Adisa hailed Nigerians for their outstanding perseverance and sustained faith in self-rule, noting that while the last 59 years has not been rosy, Nigerians have shown that their future is Nigeria.
The chartered accountant who observed the disappointments and frustrations of Nigerians with leadership inadequacies in the past 59 years, however, saluted “Nigerians for keeping faith with the vision and aspirations of founding fathers who fought so hard to achieve the country’s independence.”
He added that “though, our experience in the last 59 years in terms of growth and development may have left a tale of anguishes and frustrations but my considered preference is to look forward and prepare for the task to unearth the prized rewards that encourage our founding fathers to push for our independence.
“Already, we could see President Muhammadu Buhari working assiduously to restore our country on the right path and as a citizen, we must not waver in contributing our parts to deliver Nigeria we deserve.
“Instead of complaints, we should learn from our past mistakes and strengthen our conviction for Nigeria to be great. Remember, we have no other place to call ours but Nigeria.”
Adisa Kabiru impressed on Nigerians to look beyond celebrate but rather use the opportunity of the independence anniversary to renew our commitment to Nigeria, not only to justify the effort of founding fathers but to bequeath to the upcoming generation a country they would be proud of.
He called on public officials to double their efforts in solving the myraid of challenges facing this country, noting that “something drastic should be done to curb the increasing rate of unemployment in our country as we cannot have the better part of our young people without any meaningful engagement and expect meaningful progress.”
“Our education system is also due for a review that aligns with current challenges, so is the empowerment of our women be given priority. I know the government are not idle on some of the issues but they need to push harder and ensure Nigeria becomes the envy of the entire world.”
