Date:

Earlier this month, Hon. Amobi who is the representing of Iwo Federal Constituency at the Green Chamber gives hope on the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Gbongan-Iwo-Oyo road. The Gbongan-Iwo-Oyo road has remained uncompleted for years. The condition of the road has contributed negatively to society. The bad condition of the roads has impeded many things and also a health hazard to travellers.

On July 24th, Hon Amobi rose up at the Green Chamber to move a motion as regards the urgent works and attention this road requires. While giving account and feedback his constituents, he made the following statement; read below.

Hon Amobi: “Today, I finally move the motion on the need to complete the reconstruction of Gbongan-Iwo-Oyo road.”

“I denounce the harsh situation that is adversely affecting inter-state transportation between Osun and Oyo State also hampering the movement of passengers and agricultural produce. The immediate intervention of the Federal Government through the Ministry of Power, Works and Housing and the House Committee on Works was requested in the proposed resolutions.”

“The motion passed and the Speaker ruled that the resolutions be passed on to the relevant ministry for implementation.”

Hon Amobi Finally Moves Motion For Reconstruction of Gbongan-Iwo Road

Sponsor: Hon. Amobi Yinusa Akintola

The House:

Notes that the 32km Gbongan-Iwo-Oyo road links Osun and Oyo State in the South Western part of the country;

Recalls that sometimes in 2011, the Federal Government awarded a contract worth #6.9Billion Kopek Nigeria Limited for the reconstruction of the road;

Aware that the admission of President Muhammadu Buhari’s has paid about 2.8 billion to the contractor handling the project since 2017 and the contractor confirmed that as at 2018, the Federal government was not owing to the company;

Concerned that despite the full payment of the aforementioned sum to the contractor, the pace of work on the road is very slow and discouraging as asphalt overlay has not gone beyond Osunwoyin which is about 7 kilometers to Iwo in Osun State.

Informed that the road is not motorable between Iwo and Oyo, a situation that is adversely affecting inter-state transportation between Osun and Oyo State and is also hampering the movement of passengers and agricultural produce;

Resolves to:

  1. Urge the Federal Government to complete the rehabilitation and reconstruction of Gbongan-Iwo-Oyo road without further delay.
  2. Mandate the Committee on Works to invite the Federal Ministry of Power, Works, and Housing and Kopek Nig. Limited to make clarifications on the project and report back to the house within 4 weeks.
