The leadership of the Federation of Iwoland Students’ Union (FILSU) has urged the people of Iwo to exercise patience and remain calm as due consultations are already in place to solve the power outage issue. The leadership of FILSU shows a deep concern for the residents who had been subjected to untold hardships since the communities were thrown into the long darkness.
In a press statement signed by the FILSU president, Adepoju Saheed Adewale, he said looking at the current security situation of the country, the union can not embark on any demonstration. However, plans have been put in place with some stakeholders to ensure things are back to normal. Mr Saheed said the union understands that the problem has crippled economic activities and affected the general well-being of people in Iwo land.

FILSU President said: “We have noticed the deep concern of the general populace of Iwo, especially the youths, on the epileptic and virtually non-existing supply of power in Iwo over the past few weeks and the steps that are being taken by some concerned and progressive-minded individuals to stage a public demonstration against the near blackout.”
He continued: “We as a Student Union and a Pressure group in Iwoland, are indeed very worried about the situation like everyone else and we have started working and making due consultations on how to improve the situation even before now. Considering the volatile security situation in the country, we cannot in Iwoland, afford to have any demonstration that can result into violence or constitute a threat to the relative peace we enjoy at this time, even though the frustration is justifiable.”

“We, therefore, appeal to members of the public in Iwoland, especially the youths, to be calm and exercise some restraint and allow FILSU to take the centre stage in dealing with the situation with other critical stakeholders. We understand that the problem has crippled economic activities and affected the general well-being of our people.”
“Also, we assure everyone that in not more than 48-hour, the efforts we have taken on the issue will be made public and we are hopeful that the situation will improve. Until then, we appeal to everyone to sheath their swords and shelve any plan of a public demonstration. Should there be a need to do that, we as the student union body will take the lead. However, until all means of a peaceful resolution is exhausted, we urge for calm.” FILSU president concluded.
